The Biking Band - Space Mesa December 21, 2023 |
||
Hopefully this is only the beginning of Space Mesa. Coming to a dive bar near you! What started as a post ride cool down and joke around, Space Mesa is now a legit band consisting of TR athletes, Dusty Wygle and Josh Venti, as well as freeride legend Cam McCaul and media guru Doug Jambor. Checkout their film to see what went into playing as a group and going on to record a few songs. Words: Doug Jambor Sometimes, you just can’t say no to things. Not matter how logistically difficult that thing may be, you’ll tell yourself, "I don’t know how this is going to work but I’ll figure it out and make it happen”. That was exactly the case with this project. When Cam texted me out of the blue and asked if wanted to come play drums with him, Dusty Wygle, and Josh Venti for a live show in Oregon, there was no way I could say no to that. Cam, Dusty, and Josh are some of the most talented people I know. Not only is Cam one of the most legendary freeride mountain bikers on the planet, he is also an extremely talented and versatile musician. Guitar, bass, drums, vocals…you name it, he can play it. Dusty can be found on the Nitro Circus tour hitting the mega ramp on his dj bike, boogie board, rocking horse, or anything that has wheels and will roll. He also plays guitar and sings extremely well. Some say he has the voice of an angel. When Josh isn’t playing bass with us, or his band Lunker (they absolutely rip), he’s out building some of the best trails bike tires have ever seen. We had the pleasure of staying and practicing with Josh, and his wife Arica while we shot this video. A special shoutout to Arica for keeping our bellies full of the best food ever. Literally ranked. All this to say, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to create this project with. Being able to make original music with my friends, play live shows, ride bikes, and document the whole process would by all means classify as a pure passion project in my book. I hope this video inspires someone to chase their own passions, even if it’s as simple as picking up that old guitar that’s been collecting dust in the corner. Tune into Space Mesa's Spotify page here, or follow them on Instagram. Video | Doug Jambor |
