Hardline Wales 2024
June 11, 2024

Hannah Bergemann took on the gnarliest downhill course in the world!

After the event was cancelled in 2023 due to non-stop rain and wind, the riders were eager to get redemption this year. HB and four other female riders were invited to ride the new and improved Hardline course.

Riders showed up on Wednesday to some classic, rainy Welsh weather. The track was greasy and sketchy for the track walk and first day of practice, but they were eager to check out the updated course and get tires in the mud.

During track walk, riders got eyes on the the freshly built top section which included two gnarly and exposed rock features - not unlike something you'd find in a Rampage line. To give these sections more time to dry out, everyone started riding on the lower half of the course. HB checked off the lower section, which were some of the "warm-up" features on the track, and included a steep, slippery rock garden and 60+ foot gaps to finish.

There was finally a break in the weather for the next day of practice. The wind was a bit gusty, but the track was dry enough to try some of the big features. HB and the other girls tackled the massive on-and-off feature, and then moved lower down the course to the iconic road gap.

The road gap is massive and iconic for a reason. It's a 60+ foot drop with exposure on all sides, providing incredible views of the dyfi valley. Cami confidently dropped in first . HB lined up next, and after waiting for a break in the wind, sent the gap, with Tahnee and Vaea flying across shortly after. This was the first time any women had hit this feature, and was a big highlight of the week.

"Working together with the other girls gives me so much more confidence. We all bring different strengths and experience to the table, which we can use to tackle the different features on the course."

-Hannah

Hannah felt more at home on the new rock moves at the top of the track, and was the first of the girls to try them out. After ticking these off, the only features left were the 90-foot gaps and a massive huck-to-flat drop in the middle of the track.

"We ended up running out of practice time for the event, dealing with some challenging weather, and didn't get to try these last few features, but Im feeling like a full run is in touch for next year, which is a massive progression for women only beginning to participate in this event recently"

We are super proud of what Hannah accomplished, and can't wait to see next years event!
